Sauvignon Blanc wineries and tasting rooms in Oregon
Oregon's Sauvignon Blanc is a product of the state's cool, maritime climate: long, warm-but-not-hot summers with cool evenings that help the grape hold onto its natural acidity.
That produces wines with more tension and restraint than the riper, more tropical-leaning styles common in warmer growing regions: bright citrus and green-fruit character over overt pungency. It's grown mostly in the Willamette Valley, though it remains a smaller planting there than Pinot Gris or Chardonnay.
It's rarely the variety that gets a producer's marketing attention, which is part of the appeal: a Sauvignon Blanc made by a Pinot Noir house tends to get the same careful, low-intervention treatment as the wine that pays the bills.
